About Me
First of all, welcome to my Visual Arts and Photography Site.
I was born and grew up in Minas Gerais – Brazil, which is where my love for photography began. As a child, my dad would take pictures on vacation with his simple “point and shoot” Kodak. Back then that was all the equipment we had - and a film was too expensive, but we made the best of it and so my passion began.
In 1999 I moved to the United States and ended up in the NY/NJ region where I met some friends that introduced to more “modern” photography technology. Years later I found myself in Arizona surrounded again by excellent friends (and amateur photographers), Scott Taft, Michael Otter, and Merrill Jackson; your continued support is much appreciated.
In my early days, I found myself drawn to HDR due to the inspiring works of Joel Grimes, David Nightingale, Ben Wilmore, Chris Jones, Mike Olbinski and others. My love for photography took off when I was given a DSLR camera which has allowed me to bring all the colors and beautiful contrast that I was seeing to print.
All my pictures are post-processed. Some say my work is “artistic, edgy, and sophisticated”, and I am totally fine with that because that is my intended goal – to start with a photograph and transform it into a visual art creation. Many purists say “a photograph ceases to be a photograph when it is digitally manipulated through software”. But the same logic can be used to darkroom manipulation on film photography. I think there is no right answer; each one has its unique beauty. I never called myself a “photographer”, but a better description would be “mixed media and visual artist.”
I currently work as a Systems Engineer at a biomedical company that makes cancer diagnostics instrumentation. I live in the beautiful state of Arizona.
Hope you all enjoy the site.
